Brookside Energy Farm Blogcast: June 11th, 2007- Glaser Wheel Hoe and Prototype Tractor
We are making the final push to get our warm season crops in the ground. Before we can sow our last major crop (Dale Sorghum), we will need to clear the tall sod off the area and prepare the surface for drill seeding. The following blogcast highlights some of the wear problems on the Glaser wheel hoe. It is working, but it is showing some wear and at $2.00 a bolt, it might be expensive to continue to fix.
Pictured below are shots of a prototype electric scraper. The inventor thought it would be a good test for his machine and that it might also be useful for our efforts at the Willits Energy Farm. It was silent and very powerful (2 Hp electric motor). However, there needs to be more weight in the front and sturdier handlebars. It will be interesting perform further tests of this machine once some alterations are made.
Click here to view today's blogcast and see our progress at clearing the sorghum section and to get a look at the general wear and tear on the wheel hoe.

This electric scraper was tested on Sunday

Weight of batteries in the back needs to be moved to the front

Silent and powerful, this prototype is off to a good start
